Agrumentative/Position Paper :)

~OUTLINE~

Role: Lasallian Student
Audience: Administrators
Purpose: to persuade them to retain the no eating policy
I. INTRODUCTION
     A. Hook:
“At  a working man’s house hunger looks in but dare not enter.” – Benjamin Franklin, so what do you think about no eating policy in class? Is it needed or not? Last year statistics for no eating policy (minor offense) was 18.06% according to the DO bulletin.
     B. Background of the Issue:
             1. Supporting Detail:
The no eating policy being implemented in the classroom policy results to cleanliness; no trash scattered around or piled up. It helps the students to be more efficient in learning because of the surroundings and no disturbances (Lin, 2011).
             2. Supporting Detail:
On the other hand, eating helps the students stay awake or alert they could eat if and only if they would keep their area free of any signs of food liters such as wrappers, plastic bags and the like (booboosmoosh, 2011).
     C. Thesis Statement:
The no eating policy in the classroom should be retained because it trains the students to have self discipline and have their sense of responsibility another it helps the students to be efficient in their learning process and lastly it preserves the cleanliness and neatness of the environment, classrooms wherever they are.
II. BODY
     A. COUNTER-ARGUMENT + REFUTATION
The students would not be that effective in learning due to the hunger they feel and the drowsiness that hinder them to stay alert. But this treatment could help the students develop a sense of discipline in their lives. In fact, class is a place where teaching is being concentrated and not eating nor drinking (salim, 2011).
           1. Supporting Detail #1 for CA:
Eating in class helps the students to be more effective in class and could pay attention better when they’re not starving because they could focus on what their teacher was teaching (pacorz, 2011).
           2. Supporting Detail #2 for CA:
Due to this deficiency, the teacher allow eating in class because it helps the students to concentrate rather than thinking that they are hungry and the pain they feels the whole time while the teacher is discussing.
           3. Supporting Detail #1 for R:
College students can handle an hour or more of not eating and drinking, high school students and middle school should also be expected to comply with this policy (bullgatortail, 2011).
           4. Supporting Detail #2 for R:
There are breaks and lunch time that they could use to do their thing and breaks between classes are the best.
     B. ARGUMENT #1
Eating in the classroom would affect the efficiency of the students’ learning process because of their divided attention and some other factors of the like disturbing odors, sounds.
          1. Supporting Detail #1
Eating in the classroom promotes the unwanted smell of rotten food which is distasteful to the students. Also, the food allergies have the chance to occur (thanatassa, 2011).
          2. Supporting Detail #2
Students who are eating in the classroom aren’t just disturbing others but also affect their own learning capabilities. While they eat sometimes they miss some of the important information during the discussion (Lin, 2011).
          3. Supporting Detail #3
When they are eating the chewing sound created from their mouth and the smell of the food disturbs the other students during class discussions (accessteacher, 2011).
     C. ARGUMENT #2
It would also cause a terrible mess in the classroom when the food and drinks were not properly disposed or being spilled off by another student who passes by.
          1. Supporting Detail #1
This policy was implemented so that it would help the place preserve its cleanliness, neatness, orderliness and develop or improve the environment conductive for learning to the students (DLSU, 2009).
          2. Supporting Detail #2
To avoid the mess from happening the classroom time and the canteen or eating time should be separated so that it would lessen the distractions in class (Chong, 2011). Finally, eating in class, the students tends to leave candy wrappers, plastics and the like behind.
          3. Supporting Detail #3
The students of the latter class would be affected by their mess and could feel irritated and annoyed. They would be not in the mood to learn the lessons anymore (Lin, 2011).
III. CONCLUSION
     A. Summary/Restatement:
No Eating in classrooms should be followed in order to train them to have their own sense of responsibility and discipline, to prevent deficiency of the students from learning and to maintain the cleanliness and develop an environment conductive for learning.
     B. Closing Statement:
Never let your weaknesses overcome you rather than you overcome them yourself to achieve your dearest goal.

~ARGUMENTATIVE/POSITION PAPER~

                                                      Hunger Games

“At a working man’s house hunger looks in but dare not enter.” – Benjamin Franklin, it is said to be that we can achieve something we really want by sacrificing ourselves due to hunger plus hard work. Also, eating promotes laziness and drowsiness it could create a terrible mess just like the nature of the pigs. So, the no eating policy in the classrooms, laboratories, offices, study areas and the like, is implemented because it might produce unpleasant smells within the premises. Food spills could attract rodents, insects which they might inhabit and reproduce in these areas. Every school now practices the cleanliness campaign like the No Littering and DLSU famous acronym the CLAYGO (Clean as You Go) in order to maintain the environment efficient for learning. Due to the implementation of this policy some or even a number of students still commit this as their minor offense.
Did you know that last year statistics for no eating policy (minor offense) ranked 2nd and it was 18.06% according to the Discipline Office’s bulletin. There’s no wonder why this was implemented they don’t intend to deprive us the food but they just wanted to maintain the cleanliness; no trash scattered around or piled up. It helps the students to be more efficient in learning with no distractions (Lin, 2011). On the other hand, eating helps the students to stay awake or alert they could eat if and only if they would keep their area free of any signs of food liters such as wrappers, plastics bags and the like (Smith, 2011).

The no eating policy in the classroom should be retained because it trains the students to have self discipline and have their sense of responsibility. It also helps the students to be efficient in their learning process. Lastly, it preserves the cleanliness and neatness of the environment, classrooms wherever they are. But, the students would not be that effective in learning due to the hunger they feel and the drowsiness that hinder them to stay alert.      However, college students can handle an hour or more of not eating and drinking than high school students and middle school students but they should also be expected to comply with this policy (bullgatortail, 2011). Moreover, there are breaks and lunch time between classes they can use to do the things they need to do like eating, drinking and the like.
